This year the Broadcast Day was Boing tv including lots of programmes, mainly pre recorded but with some live ones. The first day was a lot harder than the second because we were all very anxious and excited and there was lots of cross comunication, leading to mix us and confusion. I was pleased with how the day went, with most problems occuring towards the start so we had the chance to learn and improve. It was a real shame that the broadcast was only one hour and fifty minutes, as appose to the originally planned three hour broadcast. I onot know why this was, it may have been caused by mistakes, errors or even just because the show wasn't long enough. Working in the sound room we had a few problems like when we weren't sure whether wwe wwere running VT's or transmition was, so this added a few delays. It ended successfully though and we got it done, learning that we all needed to be better prepred the next day and work with and listen to eachother.
On the second day it was so much more fun despite having more to do. From most people I spoke to they said they preffered the second day and how easy Mike was to have as a Director because of how clear and friendly his decisions were. On this day we had to be ready to move the cameras, radio mics, boom mics and hand held mics outside, along with other equipment and props so to film a live show. This wass great because it was a challenge for all of us no matter what job we did and the team kept their cool and workd together to get it done. Working in the sound room, I felt more comfortable and confident on the second day than the first, because I had seen what the first day was like and so knew what was coming.
In a way I was glad that the second day was harder with a longer broadcast, because there was a lot more pressure on everyone to do their job well, made it more exciting because we knew we had to stay ready and focused the whole time. In the sound gallery, we chose to take Phil's advice and keep someone in the studio to be ready to sort mics out, get sound level checks across from room to room and cut down communication probems. By having someone do this job I had more freedom in the sound room wich meant that I could either keep the sound going well or mess it up; and as know one said that I had messed up I took it that it went well.
By comparing the two days I think most people would see the second day as better, more fluent and more entertaining and that is because as a group we all took on board the comments and lessons from the fist day and went into the second day better prepared which made it very enjoyable and great to be part of.
